Year 5 children are increasingly involved in taking on leadership roles within the school. They are able to apply to become a Sports Captain for their House, a member of the "Good Life" team who ensure that our Eco Schools accreditation is maintained, or a member of the Bike-It Crew supporting our active travel ethos. Year 5s develop their peer learning skills through our Reading Buddies scheme. |

Educational Visits & Visitors
Please check below for the proposed educational visits and visitors across this year's learning.
To reduce the financial burden on families, we invite visitors into school as much as possible. We do include one educational visit that requires a coach and this is highlighted below to allow families to plan.
Details of each trip will be emailed out nearer the time with more detailed information along with requests for payment donation.
Autumn Term – To the Rescue!
Comic book workshop
A visit from a comic book illustrator to teach the children how to improve their drawing skills. They will create their own superhero whose adventures are then explored in English lessons.
Real-Life Superheroes
A chance for pupils to meet the real-life superheroes who look after us and our communities. Visits from paramedics, doctors, soldiers, police officers, firefighters and nurses all help to develop pupils' understanding of the jobs they do, the positive impact they have on others and hopefully inspire them to follow in their footsteps.
Spring Term – Space: The Final Frontier
Visit by the Planetarium
We have the opportunity to explore our cosmic neighbourhood from the safety of the school hall. A giant inflatable planetarium allows us the chance to visit destinations in the solar system, the Milky Way galaxy and beyond.
Visit by a Rocket Engineer
A real life rocket engineer will come into school to share their experiences of working with and designing rockets and satellites.
Trip to the Observatory, Herstmonceux
During this trip, we will participate in a telescope tour and find out about ‘what’s out there’! We will complete a rocket workshop and try to develop our bridge building skills! Throughout the day, children will have unlimited access to the indoor and outdoor hands-on exhibits! This trip will have a late finish (approximately 4.30pm).
Summer Term – Gifts, Games & Gods
A Visitor from Ancient Greece
Pupils encounter a visitor from ancient Greece. A time when myths and legends controlled the way people lived. They will learn about the different communities that people lived in in ancient Greece and deepen their understanding through asking questions.
