Spring Week 2

Friday 15th January

Handwriting:

Practice writing words with the ‘at’ rhyme, EG. sat, bat, cat, fat, rat, using the correct letter formation. Can you think of anymore?

Challenge: Write a simple sentence using one or more of these words, as well as a Phase 2 tricky word, EG. A cat sat on the mat.

 

Phonics:

Challenge: Can you write one or more simple sentences with a 'sh’ word (EG. I go to the shop.)

Recap the new tricky words ‘he’ and ‘she’. Ask a grown up to write them down and hold them up for you to read. Can you write them?

Maths:

Quick starter: Recite the numbers 1-20, then say them backwards. What happens to a number as you say it in order up to 20? (it gets bigger). What happens to a number when you count back from 20 to 0? (it gets smaller). Can you say what one more/ one less is within numbers to 10 or from 10 to 20.

Activity: Talk about number 6 with a grown up. How many different ways can you make 6? (EG. 4 and 2 together make 6, 3 and 3 together make 6...)

Using 2 different coloured building blocks, can you make a tower of 6 in different ways, EG. 3 red and 3 blue together make 6, 1 red and 5 blue together make 6.

Challenge: Use 6 different household objects (beans, coins, buttons, blueberries, etc..) to explore making different ways of 6 on your 10 frame. Can you record what your findings in any way? E.g. Draw some ten frames to show the combinations Or write the number 6 down and record the numbers that make it, all while using the language ‘ _ and _ together make 6.’

PE:

Let’s play the traffic light game with our grown-ups and / or siblings! This is a warm up game we have used during PE at school. Find a space either in your garden, on a field or in a park and get your grown-up to shout out different instructions for you to follow. Let’s see if you remember what they are... Below are the instructions you will shout and in brackets are what you could expect your child to do:

Red (stop / freeze), Amber (walk), Green (run), Speed bump (squat down, jump up), Roundabout (spin around in a circle), Motorbike (hold the ‘handles’ and tilt your body backwards), Reverse (walk backwards saying –beep beep beep’).

 

Thursday 14th January

Handwriting:

Can you write the letter a b c d using the correct formation? How many words can you think of that start with each letter? Using your phoneme mat for support, try and write these words in a list. Remember how to write the all the letters correctly.

 

Phonics:

We are going to learn a new phoneme today. It is the digraph 'sh'. Watch this videoclip:

Turn to the 'sh’ page in your Phase 3 phonics booklet and practice the action, sound talk and try to blend the words. Challenge: Can you write words with the 'sh' sound in, EG. Ship, shop, shut, shin.

We have a new tricky word to learn, ‘she’. Look for it in your Phase 3 booklet and tricky word mat. Can you write this 5 times?

Challenge: Can you say it aloud in a sentence? EG. She has long hair.

 

Maths:

Challenge: Using a real dice, or this interactive one ( https://dice.virtuworld.net/ ), roll the dice and say the number you see. How many more dots would you need to make 6? Encourage your child to use the stem sentence ‘4 and 2 TOGETHER make 6.’

 

Art:

Learn how to draw a space ship by copying the YouTube video below. Pause the video each time they draw a new part so your child can keep up. Add some colour to your spaceship once it is finished. Challenge: Can you cut around the outside of your spaceship and take it on a mission around your house?

Wednesday 13th January

Handwriting:

Have a go at practising the letter formation for the letters you found tricky. Challenge: Can you write words or sentences including these letters?

Phonics:

Challenge: Can you write one or more simple sentences with a ‘ch’ word (EG. I can chomp chips.)

Maths:

Cut out the number cards 0-10, muddle them up and put them in order. Challenge: Can you do this with numbers to 20?

Missing number game: Whilst the numbers are ordered, ask a grown up to take a few away whilst you close your eyes. What numbers are missing and how do you know? Try to use the language before, after, between, more than, less than. ( E.g. 6 is missing because it comes after 5 and before 7, it is one more than 5 and one less than 7)

PE:

Below is a link to ‘Andy’s wild workouts’. An episode where he exercises to an under the sea theme. Find a space in your house and copy Andy. Feel your heart before the workout and after the workout. Tell your grown up what it feels like. Why does it feel like this? Do you feel warmer or colder? Are you breathing faster or slower?

Handwriting:

Challenge: Can you write words with the ‘ch’ sound in, EG. Chip, chop, rich, chin?

We have a new tricky word to learn, ‘he’. Look for it in your Phase 3 booklet and tricky word mat. Can you write this 5 times?

Challenge: Can you say it aloud in a sentence? EG. He is my friend.

Follow up: Set up a teddy bears picnic and gather some food or objects to share. Explore sharing the food between 2 teddies. Do both teddies have the same or does one teddy have more / fewer? Now have a go at sharing food between 3 teddies.

Challenge: using up to 10 objects, share out the food between 2 or more teddies and record how many each one has.

 

English: Some of you may have made a space pack that you were going to bring into school. If you did, can you write a list of the objects you had chosen to put in it.

Challenge: Write a sentence about one of the objects (E.g I had a torch to see the planets),

Monday 11th January

Handwriting:

In your ‘Letter formation’ Workbook practice the zig zag monster letters (v, w, x, z).

Challenge: Can you write a simple sentence using some words with these letters in.

Phonics:

Log into ‘Busy Things’ and enter the Reception area. Look for the literacy section / phonics / alphabet- play letter line up.

Using your Phase 2 & 3 phoneme mats (in your learning pack) can you say the letter NAME and sound. (It is important that the children learn the letter name as well as the sounds.)

Challenge: ask a grown up to write the letters of the alphabet on separate pieces of paper, muddle them up and then put them in order saying first the NAME and then the PHONEME

Follow up: Can you draw some dot plates or cards to represent numbers to 5. Play a game where you take it in turns with somebody to pick a plate / card. Who has more dots and who has fewer?

Challenge 1: What is one more or one less than the number on your plate?

Challenge 2: Can you write the numerals that match each dot plate and play the same game by using numerals (I have 5 , you have 3 so you have fewer than me, I have 2, you have 3 so I have more).. You could do this with numbers to 10.

Follow up: Talk to a grown up about the story. What is your favourite part and why? Who is your favourite character? What happened at the beginning / middle / end? What do you think might happen next? Which job do you think is Bob’s favourite? What job would you like to do if you worked on the moon? Why couldn’t Bob see the aliens? Do you believe in aliens?

Challenge: Can you draw a picture of Bob or one of the aliens? Label your picture, EG. Nose, ears, hair, spacesuit.
