Literacy
Phase 4 CVCC words. Ask a grown up to write these words down:

Read the words and then think of a sentence that includes each word.
Extension: Can you write the words down as a grown up reads them aloud OR can you write a couple of sentences using 3 or more of these words, spelling them correctly?

Maths – Addition & Subtraction
Practice your addition and subtraction skills to 20 by playing a game on the Busy things website:
Busythings.co.uk > Reception > Calculating > Miner Birds (addition and subtraction)
Play against the computer or someone in your house.
Other Activity
Can you make some butterfly wings to wear? You could use cardboard as the frame and then decorate them with paint, collage materials or pens. What type of butterfly are you?

Ask a grown up to say them aloud and have a go at writing them down. Then look at the word and see if you got the spelling right. Have another go at trying to spell them. Which is the hardest word to spell? Which is the easiest?

Other Activity
Have a go at making a butterfly feeder. Just google it and some simple clips come up. (Our favourite is in the shape of a flower).
Now observe closely to see if any butterflies come to the feeder. What type are they? Perhaps you could take a photo for us or draw a picture.

Maths – ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ – sorting (classifying)
Have a go at the following activities and ideas that are based upon the story of the Hungry Caterpillar.
Sort the foods that the caterpillar eats into two groups - healthy foods and unhealthy foods.
You could draw pictures.
Which group has more / less?
Are there any foods that you think belong in both groups? Can you say why you think this?
Can you count the total number of foods that were eaten by the caterpillar in the story?
Other Activity
Make a musical shaker using some recycling materials and objects from around the home. You could use yogurt pots, plastic bottles and dried pasta or rice, pebbles or buttons. When you’ve made a shaker, use it to make music to accompany your favourite nursery rhyme or song. Have fun!
