Reception Week 12 and beyond

Reception pupils are now able to return to school. With teaching staff now involved with the planning, preparation and assessment of learning for those pupils in school we no longer have the capacity to update our weekly remote learning for this year group.

However, here are some suggested websites for you to access resources to continue supporting your child’s learning at home:

Reading

Please remember that all of the children have reading books set for them on ‘Bug club’. https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/

You have been given a password for entry already but you can contact the office if you need reminding of this. We are able to set more books at any time, you just need to let us know. It is important for the children to continue to read books with phonemes and tricky words that they are secure with in them.

Phonics.

The expectation is that all of the children are secure with phase 3 phonemes (oo, ai, igh etc) and the tricky words. You can access free resources to help the children read words and sentences with these in here: http://www.letters-and-sounds.com/

This site also has a set of phase 4 resources to help your child read the new tricky words and words such as frog, chimp, shampoo etc.

There is a free website which has access to games that consolidate the phase 3 and 4 phonemes and words: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ that are fun, the children particularly like ‘picnic on pluto’ and ‘buried treasure’. Just remember to click on the correct phase.

We recommend that you look at oak academy: https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-year/reception if you are interested in daily English and Maths lessons. There are also lessons that cover art, design, history, geography and music under the title ‘foundation subjects’.

If you would like some resources to promote discussion and writing then look at https://www.onceuponapicture.co.uk/the-collections/.

There are many pictures that you could use as prompts.

Writing

The expectation is that by the end of the Reception year, the children should be able to write simple sentences independently.

Children are assessed against this Early Learning Goal:

I can use my phonics knowledge to write words in ways that match their spoken sounds. I can write some common irregular words (tricky words). I can spell some words correctly and others are phonetically plausible. I can write simple sentences which can be read by myself and others.

Continue to encourage your child to form their letters using the correct formation and to make sure that each sentence starts with a capital letter, has a finger space between words and a full stop at the end. You could promote sentence writing by asking your child to answer these questions in writing:

  • What makes you happy?       (Iam happy when I play football.)
  • Who do you live with?           (live withMum, dad and Jess.)
  • What can you do with your body?           (Ican jump and hop.)
  • What do you like to eat?             (I like toeat chips and carrots.)
  • What do you like to do?           (I likeswimming and playing with my)
  • Where do you like to go?         (I like to go to the)
  • What can you see in this picture?         (Ican see.......)
  • What did you do at the weekend?         (Wewent for a walk in the woods.)
  • What is the mouse doing in the picture?  (Heis eating some crumbs)
  • What do you think will happen next?   (Theywill go on an adventure in the)
  • What did the boy say to the girl?   (He said to her ‘whenwill you play with me?’)
