Look at this picture. Using your imagination and the picture to help you, try to answer the following questions:

  • What’s on the other side of the door?
  • What is the girl holding in her hand? Why?
  • How did she get to the forest?
  • Where is this?
  • Who hung the lanterns in the trees?
  • Where does the stream lead?
  • Will the girl go back through the door or stay in the forest?

Predict what will happen next.

Can you make up your own tune using some ideas below?

Can you write your good advice in your jotter?

Jennie Webber is the illustrator for the story ‘It starts with a seed’.

Watch her talk about how she creates her pictures and why she gets her inspiration from nature here:

Jennie Webber – ‘It starts with a seed’

Use a pencil to draw your own detailed tree- include the tree trunk, branches, twigs, leaves, roots and maybe even a few creatures.

Write all of the adjectives you can think of to describe your tree around it. Is it ‘old, wrinkled, ragged, rough’ or ‘smooth, bouncy, tall and strong’?

Then have a go at some of the questions on this worksheet.

You can talk about the answers or write them down in your jotter.

Science activity

Did you know that you can grow some vegetables from scraps that you would normally throw away at home? Not only does this cut down on our food wastage, but it’s also a type of nature recycling! A good experiment to try is to put the top of a carrot in some water and watch what happens over the next week.

Monday 8th June

Play a phonics game on Bug Club

English activity

Listen to the story ‘It starts with a seed’

Write six sentences describing your favourite season using your senses. What can you see, hear, taste, touch and smell?
