  • Number your instructions
  • Use time adverbials (first, next…)
  • Use imperative verbs (place, prop, put…)
  • Include adverbs that explain ‘how’ (carefully, gently)

Maths - Multiplication & division problem solving

Today we are focussing on multiplication & division problem solving. Click here to watch the video. Then, complete this worksheet by either printing it and working on the sheet or by writing the answers in your maths books.

If the question requires you to draw part of the question, then do your best to draw the part you need to. If a question requires you to use equipment you don’t have, then you may leave that question.

You can now check your answers.

Thursday 18th June

English

Today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) you are going to create a set of instructions on ‘How to look after a …’ You will write an instruction guide explaining how to look after your mythical creature. We have included instructions on ‘How to wash your elephant’.

Activity

Instructions need to include imperative verbs or ‘bossy’ verbs. Listen to this song click here.

Now create your own list of imperative verbs. Will someone at home let you be the boss so that you can practice being ‘bossy’?

Instructions also need time adverbials that tell us when something is done.

Listen to this song click here. Can you write a list of time adverbials?

To make your instructions even clearer, you can add adverbs that explain how something is done. Click here to watch the video. Can you create a list of ‘how’ adverbs?

Tomorrow we will write our own instructions.

Maths

Today we are dividing 2-digit by 1-digit numbers. Click here to watch the video. Then, complete this worksheet by either printing it and working on the sheet or by writing the answers in your maths books.

Wednesday 17th June

Art activity

Take a look at this artists Lockdown art activities (Week 2 Ed Boxall)

https://www.cultureshift.org.uk/spacetocreate-online

The artist is Ed Boxall and he makes work based on imaginary characters that are a bit …. unusual!

Have a look here for details of some art activities that Ed is suggesting.

There are some other really lovely ideas for creative activities on this website

Another activity included there takes Dr Seuss characters and nonsense poems as its starting point, but you could come up with your own characters or adapt a favourite character from a book, film or even a sporting hero perhaps.

My latest sporting hero is Marcus Rashford.

Have fun! Ms Cullen

Music activity

Back to Busy Beats this week. I loved hearing your first attempts at using the program, so let’s get to know the program better.

So when you first open the 2do, press on Launch Help Videos box below the pictures.

Watch the two sections on Rhythm, Rhythm 1 and Rhythm 2. When you have watched them, click on the cross and chose an empty beat.

Create a beat that has

1) A tempo of 108 b.p.m.

2) Uses 2 doors.

See how interesting you can make your beat, play with the position of the ripplers, remember any feedback I gave you last week. Have fun add music or concentrate on the beat. Achievement awards will be given if you follow the numbered instructions above.

If you want to watch more help videos you find them in the top right corner of the screen, next to the red arrow.

Have fun! Mr Hornby

PSHE Education - What is racism?

Racism is discrimination or prejudice that is directed at someone of a different race, based on the belief that one’s own race is superior to others.

It results in negative behaviour towards individuals or groups of people, often disadvantaging them in many ways.

Watch this BBC video on BBC teach about Dr. Martin Luther King and complete the activity.

Extra: You could make a poster that celebrates how people are different.

Monday 15th June

English

Congratulations on completing your story!

This week we will be working on non-fiction texts. Read this fact file on tree giants.

(You may have completed a fact file on a giant a few weeks ago.)

Activity

Today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday) you are going to create a fact file on the mythical character that you used in your story.

You could include:

  • description (What do they look like? Do they all look the same?)
  • habitat (Where can they be found? Do they move around during the day? Do they prefer a certain time of day? Do they have a favourite season?)
  • diet (What do they like eating?)
  • life-cycle (Do they change as they grow? Do they come from an egg? What happens when they die?)
  • strengths/weaknesses (What are their talents? What are their weaknesses?)
  • special features, etc.

Don’t forget to draw a detailed picture of your creature!

Maths activity - Multiplying and dividing by 4 and 8

Today we are multiplying and dividing by 4 and 8. Click here to watch the video.

Then, complete this worksheet by either printing it and working on the sheet or by writing the answers in your maths books.

You can now check your answers.

Science activity

1. Look at the three images above and discuss as many similarities and differences as you can. Think about:

  • appearance
  • what they do
  • where they might be found

2. Then, decide which one is the odd one out and why. Try and give a reason for every answer and there is no wrong answer!

Extra information on the science

There are many ways to record what we see around us – here are just three!

The three images are a crayon rubbing of leaves, a fossilised leaf, and a sketch of a leaf. We know a lot about plants from a long time ago through fossils, like the one in the image. These are like nature’s own recordings of living things!

Challenge

Think of your own way of recording plants outdoors, perhaps using pencils, crayons or paint. Do you get different results depending on what paper you use? Have a look at the Jurassic Coast Fossil Finder here if you'd like to see more examples of fossilised plants.
