English activity - Adjectives

Let’s recap on adjectives today! Click here to find a video and activities.

An adjective is a word that describes a noun (the name of a thing or a place).

For example: He was a tall giant.

The word 'terrible' is an adjective. It tells us what the book (the noun) was like.

Adjectives can come before or after a noun.

  • The giant sitting on the hill was tall
  • The tall giant was sitting on the hill

Try putting adjectives in different places in your sentences to make your writing more interesting.

If you want to describe a noun in detail, you can use more than one adjective.

For example: The tall, towering giant looked down at the children.

You use a comma to separate interchangeable adjectives.

You could:

Use the image of the giant and describe him using interchangeable adjectives.

Tuesday 28th April

English reading - Pronouns

Watch the following video here to identify pronouns and then complete the activities.

Pronouns replace nouns. If we didn't have pronouns, we'd have to keep repeating our nouns and that would make our sentences awkward and repetitive.

For example:

Miss Swayne carefully opened the biscuit tin, ate three biscuits and then closed the biscuit tin. Then, Miss Swayne opened the fridge door and Miss Swayne ate some more food. Miss Swayne was still very hungry.

or

Miss Swayne carefully opened the biscuit tin, ate three biscuits and then closed the it. Then, she opened the fridge door and she ate some more food. Miss Swayne was still very hungry.

Pronouns are short words like it, she, he, you, we, they, us and them.

They are used to describe either individuals or groups of people, rather than using their name or names.

You could:

  • Use the image of the giant from yesterday and write some sentences using pronouns.
  • You could write about his likes and dislikes.
  • You could underline the pronouns.

Maths activity - Fractions

Adding fractions with the same denominator (click to open as PDFs)

In your jotters complete the addition number sentences.

Well-being activity

Let’s grow some calming breathing skills

Whale breathing:

Sitting criss-cross, sit up tall and take a deep breath in, hold it while you count to 5 with your fingers then tilt head up to blow it out of blowhole. You can also put your hands up on top of head to create the blow hole to “blow” out.

Bumble bee breathing: Breathe in and pretend you are smelling a flower. As you breathe out, make humming bee sound. Try different ways of making the sound - longer or shorter, high or low sounds.

Or Try joining in with Bee breath on Go Noodle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WnJbdEoKhE
