YOU COULD BECOME A WORLD RECORD HOLDER!

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS have created a new World Record called -

"The Highest Score achieved on ‘Times Tables Rock Stars' in ONE minute!"

To make an Official Attempt, players need to record a video of themselves achieving their highest score in the Studio* and send the video to support@mathscircle.com by 23:59 UK time on 4th June 2020.

The highest scores seen over the years have been 150+ in a single Studio game so we know the standard for this global title will be high.

(*Studio games go up 12×12 and include corresponding division facts.)

Art activity

This week is International Museum Day. Although they’re all shut, you can visit many of them virtually for free, no queues, no crowds!

Brighton Museum has a drawing challenge and any participants could have their work exhibited on its website. Take a look:

https://brightonmuseums.org.uk/discover/2020/05/13/mid-week-draw-online-week-6/

The challenge is all about dragons

You could use whatever materials you have at home- paint, draw, collage, model from card or boxes or work digitally on Purple Mash if you like

You could even make up your own art museum show.

‘Art UK’ has digital collections of nearly all the artwork in museums and galleries in the country!

They are asking for people to curate their own art exhibition.

https://artuk.org/discover/stories/art-uk-launches-curations-what-will-you-make-of-it

Send your work into the office (just gorgeous art work, no gorgeous faces please…) and I will forward them to Brighton Museum office@coldean.brighton-hove.sch.uk

Thanks to everyone who sent in Rainbow work last week. They were fabulous. I have sent them to the AMEX Testing Site. They loved them and are planning where to exhibit them, so well done everyone who submitted work.

Music activity

Login to Purple Mash and check out your 2Dos. Today’s is called, “Favourite Song”.

I would like you first to put on your favourite song. Then dance to it or enjoy it as you usually do.

Next, I would like you to listen to it again and answer the questions that the ‘Think about’ sections asks.

Fill in the sheet and tell me all about your favourite song. I look forward to hearing about them. If you click on the audio instructions for the task you can hear one of my favourite songs and my reason for liking it.

Extension: If you want you can try making a version of your song here, or one like it.

https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-Maker/

Think about the tempo is it the same speed as the song you like?

When you come to save it, see if you can add the link to the 2do document then I will be able to hear it, or you can email to the school office FAO Mr Hornby.

Have fun!

French activity

Congratulations to all you superstars in Sapphire and Topaz classes who have been working so hard on the  Duolingo challenge.

I am super impressed with how you’re doing.

Vous êtes incroyables!

Keep going everyone!

As an extra challenge this week, I have set an activity for you to do on Purple Mash to create an attractive and informative leaflet about Paris.

You have two weeks to complete the task …… be as imaginative and creative as you can …… fun and weird facts will be greatly appreciated!

Let’s find out a little more about Greece today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sIQv3-lKog

Use the Internet and make notes about Greece in your jotter. You will use this to create a persuasive tourism leaflet or advert about the country as a holiday destination. These websites will help you with that:

http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/greece/today.html

https://www.activityvillage.co.uk/greece

https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/history/greece/10-facts-about-the-ancient-greeks/ (scroll half way down to find out about Greece today)

The Parthenon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkI9lbmTyg0

https://www.historyforkids.net/acropolis.html

https://www.family-travel-scoop.com/greek-food-for-kids.html

It will useful to find out the following things. You could use some of these as headings when you create your leaflet on Friday!

  • Greece- geography and landscape (Why not sketch a map to include in your leaflet?)
  • What is the weather like in Greece?
  • What is the Parthenon and why is it so famous?
