Friday 1st May

English Activity

Read your story so far. Can you improve your sentences by adding fronted adverbials, adjectives, adverbs or by using synonyms to avoid repetition?

Take another look at your story mountain plan from last week. Today, in your jotter, you will write the ‘more problems’ and ‘ending’ sections of your story.

What problem will your characters have to face next?

Will they overcome these in order to have a happy ending or will you keep your reader guessing?

Read your completed story to someone at home. You may want to illustrate it too.

Maths Activity

Let’s try some cloud gazing. Get comfortable and either watch safely from your window or sit in your outside space if you have some.

Decide how many minutes you are just going to concentrate on noticing the clouds. Can you make out any shapes or patterns?

Here is a link to watch some film of clouds if you prefer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdeUCueLbwY

Now follow this link to grow your cloud knowledge and find out about different types of clouds and how they are formed.

Make sure you scroll to the bottom to watch the video too.

English Activity

Take another look at your story mountain plan from last week. Today, in your jotter, you will write just the ‘opening’ and ‘build-up’ sections of your story.

Think carefully about how you will begin.

Will your characters be in mid-action?

Will you begin with description or using dialogue?

In these sections you will describe the setting and characters in detail (Use your setting description sentences from last week to help you).

Where are they?

What are they doing?

Don’t give too much away yet, keep your reader guessing.

Monday 27 April

English Activity

Take a look at your story mountain plan from last week. In your jotter, write a short blurb about the story. A blurb is usually found on the back cover of a book and gives a summary of the story without giving too much away. It aims to get the reader interested in buying or reading the book.

For example:

Alfie has lost count of the number of days he has whiled away, exploring the woods behind his house with his best friends, Olivia and Jack. There is no place he would rather be in the world. Another day, another adventure. Unknown to Alfie, he is about to get more than he bargained for, as he and his friends become witness to an extraordinary event that will undoubtedly change their lives forever…

In Miss Frame’s latest book, ‘Alien Landing’, the author takes us through a journey of discovery and a rollercoaster of emotions. An out-of-this-world, twist on classic SCI-FI, this tale tells a story of curiosity, perseverance and most importantly, the relentless power of childhood friendship.

A must-read.
