English Activity
A letter to me, from me!
The final item we are going to create for our time capsule is a letter or diary entry. This will include details about your life and feelings right now.
- What do you expect in the future?
- What advice do you have for your future self?
- Can you think a personal motto or quote to live by?
- What are your dreams and goals?
Finally:
Decide whether you will add anything else to your time capsule. This could be:
- Newspaper clippings
- Small items which say something about who you are right now (that you don’t mind saying goodbye to for a while!)
Photos
A letter from your parents, carers or teachers to an older, wiser you.
Then:
Place everything inside a box or jar and decorate it
Decide when you will open it (In a year? On your last day of secondary school? 2030? It’s up to you!)
Hide your capsule somewhere safe (In a cupboard, bury it in the garden, ask a family member to hold on to it for safe keeping)
In one year or many years from now, you will open your time capsule and glimpse a moment frozen in time!

First of all, here's a message from Stik! “Thank you for all of the amazing artwork! I’m starting to post on my Instagram @stikstudio on the stories. Your artwork will then be stored in story highlights if anyone wants to see them. Wishing you all the best. STIK“ WOW! We forwarded your artwork to Stik and he's going to post some of it on his Instagram page. We think he might tag it "Brighton & Hove School" but hopefully he'll mention Coldean too! Ask an adult if it's okay to check out @stikstudios on Insta and see if your work is featured! |
Art activity
This is our last Art activity this school year and you may want to take a bit longer on this and work on it over the school holidays.
This is a challenge that has been set by a really famous Pottery in Cornwall and it’s a competition to design a Pot for Sharing. You can find out all the details here:
https://www.leachpottery.com/design-a-pot-for-sharing-schools-challenge
The prizes are really fantastic but we could also spend some time in class when we’re all back together again to make some of your designs in clay.
The Pot for Sharing Challenge asks you to imagine a feast for people you admire on who inspire you. Who would you like to meet and what would you like to share? For example a cup of tea with someone, or your favourite meal on an incredible plate.
Try to “think outside the box”
- Does your plate have to be round?
- Could your cup have interesting and unusual features?
Remember designs should have labels to give us lots of information about your idea. Think about colours, shape, texture, decorations and special features.
Music activity
It’s the last music task of the school year so I’m going to make it very simple.
WOW ME!
Write a piece of music in any style you like.
Show off the techniques you have mastered.
1) Can you record a melody? Use Chords.
2) Can you use doors to add extra interest?
Can you also leave a comment when you submit your work, telling me what you have enjoyed most about our music lessons.
I have enjoyed listening to all your work and look forward to getting back to class next year.
Enjoy your summer
Take care
Mr Hornby

Monday 13th July
English Activity
This week we are going to make a time capsule to remember the extraordinary times we are living in.
A time capsule is a container that holds present day items, such as letters, photos, newspapers (if you have these) and more. It’s typically hidden away for your future self or someone of your choosing to open. You could have another family member hide the box, so you aren’t tempted to open it! Want to hide it for a year? Five? Ten? There’s no time limit! The rules are all up to you. Shoe boxes are great for indoor safekeeping, while weather-resistant boxes or jars are best for the outdoors.
Watch this video to find out more.
Today we are going to create our first item to put inside our time capsule.
Draw a picture of the people you are socially distancing with. On the back of the paper, create an ‘All About Me’ poster. Include lots of details about yourself (favourite colour, animal, food, movie, place, toy, song etc.) Write about your best friends and what you want to be when you are older. What other information will you add to your poster?
