PSHE- Wellbeing

Keeping in contact with those we care about is important, especially at the moment. Think about someone in your life that you haven’t been able to see for a while. Take some time to think about why you like about them and why you miss them. What would you do with them now if you could? Write down five reasons why this friend/family member is so important to you and five things you like to do together.  Use the list to write a letter or postcard to this person and either email it to them or send to their address, as a nice and kind surprise. It’s feels nice to be nice!

Thursday 2nd July

English Activity

Watch this short animation of King Midas to remind yourself of the story:

If you could ask Dionysus for one wish what would you ask for?

Click here to check out this advert for Skittles sweets inspired by the story of King Midas.

Today we are going to plan a story called, ‘The Midas Touch’. In your story, you will be the main character and everything you touch will change into something different. What will it be? Gold? Skittles? Or something else entirely?

Decide:

  • Who will grant your wish and why?
  • What will everything change into when you touch it?
  • What are the consequences of your new powers?
  • How will your story end?

Wednesday 1st July

Art activity

I really enjoyed lots of your art from last week- gorgeous, thank you!

This week’s art learning is based on the work of an artist called Stik. He makes artwork that goes in public spaces, some of it is HUGE!

Have a look at some of his work and learn about him here:

http://stik.org

Have a go at drawing your own stick person character. Try out different lines and pens with whatever you have at home. This would also work really well on Purple Mash paint programme, using a thick brush or spray gun tool.

Think about a message that you’d like your stick person to share:

It could be one of kindness, thanks or celebration.

Explore different colours and backgrounds. Make loads and then choose your favourite. Send them in to the office and I will share them with Stik himself!

Music activity

Wow, I loved some of your musical words last week, Well done.

This week we are going to return to creating melodies with the synths.

So when you first open the 2do in Purple Mash, press on Launch Help Videos box below the pictures.

Watch the PLAYING WITH PITCH AND MELODY video, and then click on the cross and chose an empty beat.

Your challenge is to create a piece of music with some recorded melodies in it, as shown in the video. You must also have a drum beat and see if you can use some doors to create interesting rhythms.

If you need to re-watch the help video you find them in the top right corner of the screen, next to the red arrow.

Enjoy!

PSHE Activity- All Equal All Different

We have been thinking a lot about racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. You can find out more about this by clicking here.

One of the impacts of racism is that the contribution of some Black and Asian people has been forgotten or ignored.
We are going to grow our knowledge!

Watch Young, Gifted and Black to learn about black heroes from past and present: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npLgvYFx32g

Or research another influential figure from the past…

Mary Seacole, Rosa Parkes, Martin Luther King, Mathew Henson, Olive Morris, Maya Angelou, Nina Simone…

Or present…

Mo Farah, Steve McQueen, Malorie Blackman, Zadie Smith, Stormzy, Sadiq Khan, Jameela Jamil, Shami Chakrabati, Akram Khan, Nadiya Hussain, Konnie Huq, M.I.A etc.

Once you have chosen a person who inspires you, decide how you will record you learning. Will you make notes in your purple book, design a poster or leaflet or create a PowerPoint presentation? It’s up to you!

Monday 29th June

English Activity

Today we are going to listen to the first half of ‘King Midas and the Golden Touch.’

Listen to Part 1 and the beginning of Part 2.  Make sure you pause the story at 07:47, after the words, “Can you guess what’s going to happen now?”

Don’t worry we will listen to the rest tomorrow.

King Midas’s wish has been granted. Everything he touches turns to gold! In your purple jotter, write the ending to the story. What you think will happen next? Do you think this a wise wish for Midas to have made?
