PSHE- Wellbeing
Find a peaceful spot to lay down still. If you have some outdoor space that's perfect but if not, choose somewhere near an open window so you can listen to things going on outside.
Use a pillow under your head or any way you want to get comfy. See if you can lay still with your eyes closed and just listen.
You may not notice much at first but the longer you keep your eyes closed and listen, the more you will start to hear.
Next, try to ignore any sound you think is man-made (people, cars, building sites etc) and really try to focus on natural sounds.
You might find you realise there is more nature going on around you than you realised - birds, trees. pets, weather etc.
Bonus challenge: choose one bird you hear in this session and use the Internet to find out the species and more about it too. Even if it's only a gull, you may discover something surprising that you didn't know...

English Activity: Feeling safe and happy
Everyone has the right to a home, food and safety. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible. We want to help Dino and Sana feel safe and happy, can you help? Write the answers to the following questions in your jotter. Remember there are no right or wrong answers to these questions so just write down whatever you think best.- Everyone needs essential things, that we cannot live without like water, air and food What food would you make Sana?
- Everyone should feel safe and have access to a home and healthcare. What might help Sana feel safe?
- Everyone should feel loved and cared for. How could you show Sana that you care?
- Everyone likes to feel important and valued by others; like they are doing well. What skills might Sana have? How could you help her?
- Everybody should play and create. In the space on the next page, draw a picture for Dino and Sana including all the things they need.

Art activity
When we were together in class, we did a lot of work about mark making- either with pencils, pens, graphite or paint.
When we were together in class, we did a lot of work about mark making- either with pencils, pens, graphite or paint. Here is an activity that builds on mark making and is really fun and experimental. It uses everyday things to ‘paint’ with. One example is coffee: You can experiment with different strengths to get different ‘colours’. To paint with, look around the kitchen to see what you can find to make marks with. |
Look at this short video to get you started:
When your work is dry, perhaps you could use it to collage another piece of work with.
Music activity
Here is another music challenge for you. Lots of you have been enjoying Busy Beats, which is great. Lots of you have been following instructions well and making some great music so today I have an exciting challenge for you. We are going to make words with music! |
As we spoke about in class, a looooooooong time ago, we use the first 8 letters of the alphabet to name the notes.
So, as it is the alphabet, we can create some musical words.
First write down some words that you can think of using just the letters A, B, C, D, E, F and G e.g. dad (Try and be creative, can you think of a word no-one else will?)
Now on Busy Beat (in Purple Mash) you are going to use your words as music. Do you remember when we play more than one note at a time, we call it a chord, so here the three notes D A D above the ripplers are making a chord, as they play at the same time.
|
If you can’t find the letter you want displayed along the top, in the section called synth, click on any letter you have placed there, and you can change it by pressing on any of the keys, the letter name will change as try the different keys
When you have added your words you can add some drums, experiment, make the words play beautiful music. Can you alter the tempo and use the doors we learnt about last week.
This may be tricky, but don’t worry, experiment and have fun, we are just thinking about how to use and name the notes, about melody and chords.
Enjoy and have fun. I have loved hearing your work.

English Activity
Sometimes people must flee their homes because they are not treated well in their country. This often means having to leave family and friends behind and make a difficult journey to find safety. In yesterday's poem, Dino the dinosaur made his journey to the UK after a war broke out and destroyed his home.- How are you feeling?
- What was your journey like?
- What would you want to tell them about your new life in the UK?
- What do you hope for the future?

English Activity: A Friendship Poem
Last week was Refugee Week. Refugee Week takes place every year across the world in the week around World Refugee Day on the 20th June.
Refugee Week is a UK wide festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees. This week's English tasks are all about getting you to think about the experiences of young asylum seekers and refugees, highlighting the positives, building empathy and challenging negative stereotypes.
First, click here to find out some key facts about refugees.
Next, watch this animation and listen to the poem called 'Help Them Feel at Home'. The video can be found here. If the video does not work, you can see the text here.
Many children will arrive in the UK and join a new school. It can be very difficult because they may not speak English or understand what school is like. In our story Tony the Dinosaur was friendly to Dino and Sana. Imagine a new person is coming to your school from far away. How could you make them feel welcome (Actions)? For example... Offer your chair, smile, ask them how they feel, share your pencil case.
In your jotter, write down as many welcoming actions as you can think of.
What qualities do you need to be a good friend? For example... Helpful, caring, friendly, funny, generous.
In your jotter, write down as many qualities as you can think of.
Now we are going to create a poem about friendship. Choose friendly qualities and actions from the previous task to complete the poem below.
Once you have finished your poem you might want to read it aloud, share it with someone at home, write it up on a sheet of plain paper, or type it up on Purplemash. It's up to you!

PSHE Activity- Understanding and Empathy
Think about the word “understand”. What does it mean to understand something or someone? Understanding how people feel is sometimes called “empathy” - this means you can imagine how they feel.
You can watch this Sesame Street video about empathy to help you think about it.
Do you think it is kind to try to show empathy and understand how people feel? Why is it kind? What can you do to help you understand how someone feels? Note down any of your thoughts in your jotter.
After watching the video above, look at the examples below. Imagine how these people might feel and write it down. Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever felt this way?
|
|
|
|
Can you understand how these people might feel? How does understanding them help them to feel better? If you understand how they feel, can you help support them better?
Imagine that empathy is a seed. That seed can grow into a tree. It has roots and also branches. Draw this seed on a piece of paper. Underneath draw the roots.
Write five kind things we can do to build empathy and understanding with others inside or underneath each root. Use the notes from the other activities you have done. Now draw the tree. Draw branches and leaves. On each leaf write a positive thing that can come from understanding people. Think about how it can be positive for you, for the other person, the community and the wider world. Think about empathy, kindness and understanding. What did you learn?
