English Activity

Write the more problems section and the ending section of your story in your jotter.

Are you going to leave your reader guessing at the end? Will it be a cliff hanger? Will it all turn out alright in the end?

Read your completed story to someone at home. You may want to illustrate it too.

Maths Activity - Record the questions and answers into your jotter

Use the original division calculation to create a pattern of calculations with the dividend getting ten times bigger each time:

24 ÷ 3 = 8

240 ÷ 3 = _____

_____ ÷ 3 = _____

_____ ÷ 3 = _____

_____ ÷ 3 = _____

Now, create your own set of calculations using the same pattern.

Write the generalisation into your jotter, “When you make the dividend ten times bigger and keep the divisor the same, the quotient gets ten times bigger too."

A) 1,500 ÷ 3 =                             B) 270 ÷ 3 =                               C) 1,800 ÷ 6 =

D) 45,000 ÷ 5 =                           E) 2,000 ÷ 4 =                             F) 210 ÷ 7 =

G) There are stands at a cricket match with 900 fans in each one. There are 5,400 fans at the match. How many stands are there?

H) A cycling race is divided into nine equal sections of endurance over 72,000m. What is the total distance of two sections? Give your answer in KM

I) A group of friends raise £8,400 for local charities. They give each charity the same amount: £1,200. How many charities do they donate to?

J) Eggs are put into boxes. Each box holds 12 eggs. A farmer has 720 eggs that need to go in the boxes. How many boxes are needed?

Challenge:

Use 20 ÷ 4 = 5 to work out these calculations:

20 ÷ 0.4 = ______

20 ÷ 0.04 = ______

20 ÷ 0.5 = _____

20 ÷ 0.05 = _____
