Nursery

It was brilliant to see many of you getting out and exploring; some of you even found some grass snakes! We are very happy to now be able to upload longer videos to Tapestry.

Watch Mrs Sutton read "Superworm" or sing along with Mrs Fagan!

We will continue to learn about mini beasts this week and our focus is the nursery rhyme Incy Wincy Spider. Click here for a YouTube version of this classic nursery rhyme.

Explore
Lots of people are scared of spiders but actually they are much more scared of you.

Just imagine how big you must look to them! Spiders like to hide in dark and quiet spots outdoors. Can you think of somewhere in your garden or out on a walk to the park that a spider might hide? Can you ask a grown up to take a picture? You can then zoom in on the picture and have a closer look! How many legs does it have? Is it hairy or smooth?

Phonics
Head over to Tapestry and play ‘What’s in the box’ with Mrs Fagan.

You could also have a go at playing it on busy things. You can find it by going to

Age 3-4> Literacy, Communication and Language> Phonics Programme> Phase 1 Sound Discrimination> Instrumental sounds> What’s in the box?

Count
Play the Incy Wincey Spider counting game.

This is a game for two players. To play, you'll need two dice, a paper version of the drainpipe (or draw a quick drainpipe with 13 spaces) and a counter to be the spider. You could even create a giant drainpipe in chalk if you have some outside space.

Start by playing with one dice.

Decide who is the sunshine and who is the rain. Take it in turns to throw the dice and move the spider that number of spaces up (sunshine) or down (rain).

If the spider gets right to the top of the pipe, sunshine wins. If it gets to the bottom, rain wins!

This is a game we have played in nursery with the children. Head over to Tapestry to see an example of the game in action.

Create
Can you spin your own spider's web?! All you need is a paper plate and some string. Carefully snip around the edge of the plate. Then pull a piece of string through one of the cuts and secure with a piece of sticky tape. Then you can wrap your piece of string around the plate to make your spider’s web!

If you wanted to make a spider to go with it, then all you need is an old toilet roll. Head over to Tapestry for a step by step guide!

Tapestry
Please continue to share photos and videos of your child’s learning on tapestry so that we can celebrate their achievements and give ideas on next step learning.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Nursery Team
