Reading: Nothing beats sitting and sharing a book with a child! We will leave boxes of books for each year group in the main entrance of the school. Please borrow and return from there.

We have our “Reading at Home” Leaflet for ideas to help.

Week beginning 22nd June

Thank you for all of the lovely pictures of the fun you’ve been having at home, keep them coming as they really do make us smile! This week we are going to think about the importance of keeping our beaches clean to keep the animals safe and the water clear.

Explore
It is so important for us to keep our beaches clean and take all of our rubbish with us when we leave because if we don’t it will end up in the sea when the tide comes in. Why do you think it is bad for our rubbish to go into the sea? Watch this episode of Octonauts to see how they try to clean up a big floating patch of rubbish in the water. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03b6r3z/octonauts-series-3-6-pelicans

Take a look at the images on Tapestry and talk to your grown up about what you spot in the picture that shouldn’t be there. You could then have a go at making your own polluted sea and thinking of ways that we can clean it up and keep it clean.

Phonics
This week we are going to think about our favourite sounds. Can you make a poster to record your favourite sounds pictorially; mine are the wind blowing, ice cream vans jingling and the waves crashing at the beach!

Which ones do you like the best? Can you think about sounds that you don’t like? (e.g. stormy weather, barking dogs, car horns, crying babies)

Count
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08cr24d/numberblocks-series-1-how-to-count

This week we will look at the key principles of counting;

One to one correspondence – match one number name to each item to be counted Cardinality – the last number in the count is the total size of the group

Stable order – say the number names in the correct order

Can you label your toys by counting out how many cars, dolls or cups that you have? Then you can count them up when tidying away. Take a look at Tapestry to see me have a go at organising my toys!

Create
Can you create a poster to remind people to keep the beaches clean? See my version on tapestry.

Move
Can you copy the dance moves?!

Tapestry
Please continue to share photos and videos of your child’s learning on tapestry so that we can celebrate their achievements and give ideas on next step learning.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Nursery Team
