Nursery Wk7

Week beginning 18th May

It was so lovely to speak with many of you on the phone this week and we are so happy you are all having lots of fun and learning so much at home!

This week we will continue to explore the world of colours with some fun new friends in the story Monsters Love Colours. Listen to Mrs Fagan read the story on Tapestry.

Explore
In the story the monsters like to mix up their colours to make brand new colours! If you have some food colouring or paint you could add some to bottles of water to explore. You can hold them up to the light, overlap them, or shine a torch through them to see what happens.

If you have a large see through box, you could fill it with fairy lights or a lamp to make your own homemade light box to explore the coloured bottles on. Take a look at Tapestry for an example!

Phonics
There are lots of fun rhyming words in Monsters Love Colours…squish/mish, mash/splash. Some of the rhyming words don’t mean anything but it is fun to play with silly rhyming words!

Can you think of some words that rhyme with these words? They don’t have to be real ones!

Here’s an example…

wriggle/ miggle/ sqwiggle

Now you try!

Squish…

Mash…

Spin…

Zoom…

Head over to https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/1/cake-bake and try to make a rhyming cake!

Count
We are going to explore the number 5 this week. 5 is 1 more than 4! Watch this episode of number blocks. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08d630h/numberblocks-series-1-five

Then, have a go at sharing out 5 pieces of fruit between two plates. What happens? Does everyone get the same amount? How many different ways can you share the fruit out?

Create
In the story the monsters all share their favourite colours and why they love them! What is your favourite colour? What does your favourite colour make you think of? What do different colours make you think of? How do the colours make you feel? Which colours do you think go nicely together?

Can you draw your own favourite colour monster? You could include all of the things it makes you think of. Mrs Fagan’s favourite colour is yellow- take a look at her monster on Tapestry.

Tapestry
Please continue to share photos and videos of your child’s learning on tapestry so that we can celebrate their achievements and give ideas on next step learning.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Nursery Team
